You can learn Shadowlands Mining from Excavationist Au'fer in Oribos at the Hall of Shapes. (Coordinates: 39.6, 33.2)

Oribos is the new Shadowlands city hub for both factions. You will arrive there after you finish the Shadowlands intro quests, so you can learn the new Mining skill before you head out questing.

Below you will find a few tips that will help you mine ores faster.

Unfortunately, there are no new Stirrups or Leather Barding recipes in Shadowlands, so mining ores will be a lot harder.

How to avoid getting dismounted

One of the most annoying things in WoW is getting Dazed. Every mob has a chance to daze you when they are in hitting you from behind, but there are two ways to prevent getting dazed.

  • If your class has a tanking spec, you can switch to that while farming. Tanks are immune to daze, so you will never get dismounted.
  • Equipping a Comfortable Rider's Barding in your mount equipment slot prevents you from being dazed while mounted. (doesn't work with druid forms)

You can enchant your gloves with Enchant Gloves - Shadowlands Gathering to increase the speed of gathering in the new Shadowlands zones. (works with herbalism and skinning too) This enchant brings mining time down from 3.2 seconds to 1.7 seconds.

The places listed in this guide are where I think you can level Mining the fastest, but you can level your Mining in any other zone, every Shadowlands ore gives skill points up to 150.

Alternative routes:

Bastion seems to have to most ores, so following these routes below should be the fastest way to level Shadowlands Mining. There are very few hostile mobs along these routes, so low levels or characters with bad gear can also use these.

Warlords of Draenor – Mining changes

  • New Ore: True Iron Ore, Blackrock Ore
  • Peon's Mining Pick: Allows faster mining in Draenor. Does not need to be equipped, found in Spires of Arak.
  • There are leveling improvements for miners. You can now harvest mineral nodes without a required skill. The amount of ore you'll get is determined by your skill level. We saw some of this earlier in Patch 5.3 when low level miners could mine nodes in Pandaria and get fragments.
  • New Mining Pet: Ore Eater
  • Garrison building: Lunarfall Excavation Level 3
  • A follower assigned to the Level 2 Lunarfall Excavation Level 2unlocks mining carts which contain additional ore.

Learn Mining Journeyman.

You will mine the following ores: [Tin Ore], [Silver Ore]

Hillsbrad Foothills

Hillsbrad Foothills is just simply the best place to farm Tin. If you are an alliance player you should still go there, but Northern Stranglethorn is a great alternative. You will see a red zone on the map, that zone is filled with Tin, it's everywhere. When you mined all of it, just go outside of the zone where you can see the little yellowish arrows, mine a few Tin and head back to the red zone because it's most likely that the Tin Veins there are already respawned.

Learn Mining Expert.

You will mine the following ores: [Mithril Ore], [Truesilver Ore]

Felwood and Burning Steppes are the best places to farm because the mining route is just so simple in these two zones. Badlands is also a really good place, but I found a bit more Mithril in the other zones.

Don't go into Dreadmaul Rock. There is plenty of Mithril at the corner of the map, you will just get dismounted if you go into the cave and it will slow you down.

Learn Mining Artisan.

You will mine [Thorium Ore].

Buy Thorium Ores and smelt them until you reach 205, the reason for this is that with 205 Mining skill (215 with your mining pick), you will be able to mine Rich Thorium Veins, not just the small ones.

Visit your trainer and learn Mining Master.

You will mine [Fel Iron Ore]. You can stay in this zone up to 350.

Hellfire Peninsula

325 - 350

You will mine [Adamantite Ore] and [Fel Iron Ore].

350 - 400

Visit your trainer and learn Mining Grand Master.

You will mine [Cobalt Ore]. Howling Fjord is the best place to farm Cobalt, however you can go to Borean Tundra if you want to, there are plenty of Cobalt there too.

You will mine [Saronite Ore]. Sholazar Basin is simply the best place to farm Saronite, you will find a few Rich Saronite Deposits, but you won't be able to mine them yet.

Sometimes you can get unlucky and there will be too many Rich Saronite Deposits, you can try Wintergasp if this happens. If the battle is on, you won't be able to use flying mount for a few minutes.

Learn Mining Illustrious

You will mine [Obsidium Ore].There is a lot more Obsidium in Hyjal than in Vashj'ir, but there is also a lot more players. Hyjal beats Vashj'ir if there isn't anyone else farming the zone, else the zones are pretty similar. If you go to Vashj'ir, you will also have to do the starting quests until you get your underwater mount.

You will mine [Elementium Ore].

Twilight Highlands

Wrath Of The Lich King Mining Guide

There will be some Pyrite Deposits in this zone, but you won't be able to mine them until you reach 525. Rich Elementium Vein also requires a mining skill of 500, please don't get angry for not being able to mine these yet.

You can also just skip this part entirely and start farming Ghost Iron Ore.

500 - 600

You can mine this ore from skill 1, but you will only get [Ghost Iron Nugget] until you reach Mining skill 425 (10 nuggets makes one ore), after that you will start getting a few ores, and at 500 you will stop getting nuggets.

You can level up to 600 by mining only Ghost Irone Ore because there is an in-game bug that allows you to gain skill points even though Ghost Iron is grey.
